Nine-month-old Sofia Rivas was found by police in Curepe and was returned to her parents hours after she was taken from her mother’s arms in Chaguanas on Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning police told Newsday Central Division CID and Task Force members and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit received information that the child was in an apartment building in Curepe.

When police got to the building at 10 pm the child was found in a care of a 29-year-old woman. She was arrested and is assisting the AKU with its investigations.

Newsday was told the child was found safe but was still sent for a medical checkup before she was handed over to her mother.

On Tuesday the mother reported the child missing at 7.30. Valentina Hernandez said a “thin woman” had disappeared with her daughter after asking if she could take the child to the supermarket downstairs to buy juice for her.
