CXC investigates cheating in exam
Three invigilators supervising students writing the CXC mathematics examination on Wednesday have been fired.
A video on social media showed students who were supposedly doing the exam in fact using their cell phones to whatsapp questions on the papers to each other.
In the video no invigilator was present in the room while the students were seen walking around and talking.
Education Minister Anthony Garcia said he has written to CXC in Barbados, which owns the exam, and is awaiting its response on how it will dealwith the matter. CXC will decide whether the students will be given an alternative exam or be debarred from writing this and other exams.
Students found guilty of misconduct or dishonesty can be disqualified and be barred from entry to future examinations offered by the council.
The minister and first vice president of the TTUTA said they were concerned that the students were even able to take their phones into the classroom.
