Have respect for mothers
THE EDITOR: We have a problem in TT regarding homicides and female citizens. In the past few months leading up to this year's Mother's Day celebrations, women have been stabbed, doused with inflammable material and burned, choked, shot, chopped, raped and then killed, beaten to within an inch of dying and generally abused by men known to them. When I hear of a new murder, I ask myself, 'Is it a domestic violence murder?'
Death in this category appears to be increasing.. Worryingly, it can allegedly be viewed to be part of TT culture. These deaths occur across all races, religions and social classes. They could allegedly stem from a weakness of our females who appear to believe life is useless without a boyfriend, husband, male companion or a Sugar Daddy. Can our men truly coerce some women into doing anything they wish?
For Mother's Day 2019, we have the president of the Public Services Association Mr Watson Duke encouraging female workers to disrespect themselves at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. After some totally brain dead antics in the hotel lounge, Mr Duke rewards them with $100 each "for Mother's Day." Will the the husbands and boyfriends of these 50 women have approved this nonsensical gesture? My own mother would turned in her grave with shame.
Read my lips. Mr Duke would have had to distribute TT$500 minimum each to male workers on Father's Day.
Happy Mother's Day 2019 to all mothers in TT. Know for a fact that you are worth far more than TT$100.
