Central Super League bowls off today

The third edition of the Jaguar Land Rover and FUSO Central Super League (CSL)bowls off today with a clash between Barrackpore United and All Apaches held at the Pierre Road Grounds, Charlieville from 6.30pm.

This year’s edition will run for six weeks and has increased the number of participating teams to 16.

The teams will be vying for $50,000 in prizes.

Star players participating in the tournament are: Kieron Pollard, Dinesh Ramdin, Jason Mohammed, Yannic Cariah, Kjorn Ottley, Amir Jangoo, Akeal Hosein, Keagan Simmons, Anderson Phillip, Jyd Goolie, Ewart Nicholson among others.

Each participating team is allowed to play only two Premier One players/ national players alongside any number of Premier Two players in their starting team.

The CSL committee comprises of cricketers from the Comets Cricket Club as well as supporters and residents of Charlieville and environs. One of the organisers for the tournament and current national player, Bryan Charles said, “The previous two years we had 12 teams but there was an increase of interest, so we decided to increase to 16 this year.

“The feedback has been astounding so we improved in making the tournament bigger and better including our Cancer Appreciation Day.”

The off-spinner said, “The competition shows the wealth of talent TT has to offer, the competition has grown so much that some of the WI players participated last year are missing out because of the World Cup.”

He continued, “ I would like to thank the main sponsors Jaguar and FUSO in showing interest in the CSL this year.” There will be a new format in 2019, the winner of each group will advance straight to the quarter-final while the third and fourth placed teams in the group will play an eliminator. The winner of that match will then challenge the second placed finisher of the group for the remaining spots of the quarter-final.

Group 1: Barrackpore United, TT Rejects, All Apaches, Young Guns

Group 2: Bamboo All Stars, Bamboo Strikerz, Combine Legends, Combine 2.0

Group 3: Associates XI, Central All Stars, SITAL, Dream Team

Group 4: Expert All Stars, South Boys, Xtreme Smashers, Aranguez
