Fire stays unbeaten in Premiership Division

FIRE maintained their unbeaten start and a joint top spot in the Courts All Sectors Netball League Premiership Division, Saturday, after securing another comfortable victory, 43-26, over UTC.

The result kept Fire perfect after three matches in the league. They were led by goal-shoot Joel Brown, who scored 14 goals from 16 attempts, while his team-mate, Martinez Holder – the other male player on the team – got 15/25. Onella Jack Hill (8/15) and Simone Morgan (6/13) also had a strong hand in the win.

Goal-attack Aquila Blugh had a productive outing, scoring a solid 21 goals from 23 attempts for UTC. She, however, was unable to receive sufficient support from her team-mates in order to mount a considerable challenge as the team slumped to a second loss after three matches.

While Blugh impressed for Fire in the last of five matches played Saturday, the best individual performance came from national women’s netball team player, Joelisa Cooper, who scored an unassailable 27 goals and missed only two attempts, in a 47-27 victory for PYC over Las Lomas Academy, a result which also saw PYC win its third straight Premiership fixture.

In the other Premiership match, Defence Force picked up their second league win after brushing aside Police 40-37.

Meanwhile, there were two Championship Division matches played with Bermudez winning its second of two matches, 36-29 over TSTT, and Defence Force sealing a second win after three matches, edging Miscellaneous 28-27.

Matches will resume today at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua. TSTT and Police will meet at 5.30 pm, before Jabloteh takes on Les Enfants at 6.20 pm, both in the Retro Division.

In the third match, TSTT and Jabloteh will clash at 7.15 pm for a place in the final of the Jean Pierre Challenge Trophy (Championship Division) against Bermudez.
