Private farewell for Sheldon Sukhdeo
MURDERED kidnap victim Sheldon Sukhdeo was given a low-key funeral service on Friday at Belgroves Funeral Chapel and Crematorium at San Fernando. Little is known about the private ceremony, in contrast to last year’s funeral for his murdered brother, Sheron.
Police said Coffee Street, San Fernando, had activities "as usual". There were no trucks with music blasting and with banners bearing images of the deceased, as the case with Sheron’s funeral.
It is believed the body was cremated after the service. Up to yesterday, police had not arrested anyone for the killings.
On December 16, gunmen snatched Sukdheo, 32, from a BMW sedan which they intercepted on the northbound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway in Claxton Bay. His kidnappers initially made a ransom demanded of $2 million for his safe release and relatives later paid $300,000.
On Tuesday, police discovered Sukhdeo's decomposing body face down in a forested area at Las Lomas No 2. The head was wrapped and sealed with duct tape. Both hands and feet were tied.
Police believe Sukhdeo, who was shot twice in the chest, died last Sunday.
Sukhdeo was the owner of Sheldon’s Auto in Chaguanas.
Last year, on March 26, his elder brother Sheron, 33, the real-estate and car-dealer were shot and killed at near relatives’ home at Caroni Savannah Road, Charlieville, Chaguanas. Sheron was the owner of Sheron’s Auto in Chaguanas.
His lavish funeral held at the family’s home then to the Waterloo Cremation site was personalised to reflect the life he lived Sheron lived. The body was adorned with excessive gold-coloured jewellery, all which relatives removed and secured.
There was a display of luxurious vehicles, loud music, drifting and a heavy police presence. Mourners at the cremation site in Carapichaima showered the body with Moet champagne and other expensive drinks before it was reduced to ashes.
The father of two, often flashed his wealth on social media where he had a huge following.
On May 4 last year, Sheron’s brother-in-law Philip Basant, 28, was gunned down in almost the same spot in Charlieville.
In a send-off like that Sheron, mourners poured bottles of champagne over the body of Basant.
