Please stop the racial abuse
THE EDITOR: While our country is not physically engaged in racial conflict, we are engaged in racial abuse and innuendoes on social media. We are sowing seeds of racial conflict that can escalate into physical confrontation. If that happens no one wins; all of us would be affected.
If a politician or an ordinary citizen does or says something that may be considered gross and it becomes a news item, why does the individual’s ethnicity have to come into focus? There are people who would use these said news items to spew their racial hatred with venom.
Let us judge people by their actions and not by their ethnicity. Martin Luther King Jr said, “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
The racial abuse has to come to an end on social media. The authorities have to monitor and take action by way of legislation before it’s too late.
We as citizens have a responsibility to the future generation. What kind of country do we want for our children and grandchildren to live in?
