Greaux dethrones Richards for 200m crown

KYLE Greaux continued his good form this season by upsetting his countryman and Abilene Wildcats club mate Jereem Richards in the Men's 200 metres on day three of the 2018 NGC/Sagicor General-sponsored NAAA Open Championships yesterday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

In the pouring rain, Greaux produced an effort of 20.31 seconds in the damp conditions. Richards, who won gold at Commonwealth Games Goal Coast 2018, grabbed the silver medal in 20.35 secs while, Jalen Purcell (Simplex) secured the bronze medal in (21.12).

An elated Greaux said after the race, “It was always my intention to win, no discredit to Jereem but we both put in the work and deserve good results. At the end of the day, he is a brother but a competitor at the same time.” The 30-year-old sprinter, who is in his best ever season said, “The season had its ups and downs, the downs being a disappointed performance the Commonwealth Games but I later ran a personal best in the 200m. The rest of season is looking up and I’m looking forward to a top three finish at the CAC and NACAC games.”

Semoy Hackett (Zenith) produced a strong finish coming off the bend and maintained her form to closely defeat Kayelle Clarke (PAP) who had a late surge in the closing meters in the Women`s 200m final. Hackett stopped the clock at (22.64) followed by Clarke in (22.74) then Abilene's Reyare Thomas in (23.19).

Jehue Gordon, representing Memphis Pioneers, won the Men's 400 metres hurdles by almost two seconds recording a time of 50.87. St. Kitts & Nevis's Llyod Hanley- Byron was a distant second placed with (52.54) while Kadesh Roberts (Memphis) secured the bronze medal with (52.86). In the women's equivalent, Sparkle Mc Knight (Memphis) won in a time of 56.60 edging out her only other competitor Janeil Bellile (Abilene) 56.82.

Nicholas Landeau of Atheltics Central won the Men's 800m crown in one minute, 50.18 seconds beating off Ashton Gill from Cougars club (1:50.86) while Daniel Gibbs (Mustangs) held on to the bronze medal in (1:51.61). Alena Brooks (Memphis) continued her dominance in the Women's 800m winning the race by a 50 metre margin in a time of two minutes, 4.46 seconds. Kennisha Pascal (Track Blazers) was second in 2:15.50 while Memphis`s Dawmel Collymore captured third place in 2:17.90.

Evergreen veteran Cleopatra Borel (Rebirth) claimed yet another national title in the Womens shot put even throwing a distance of 17.21 metres. Portious Warren representing Toco Tafac placed second with an effort of 16.34m getting past her club mate Cherisse Murray for the bronze medal in 15.11m.

Talena Murray (Zenith) grabbed the gold medal in the Women's javelin with a distance of 48.04 metres, placing second was Chuntal Mohan (Striders) with 40.75m and Ayana Glasgow (UTT Fast Track) 38.85m came third.

Kyron Blaise won the Men's triple jump with an effort of 15.50m improving on his silver medal on Saturday in the long jump. Taeco O'Garro of Antigua & Barbuda settled for the runner-up position with a 14.65m jump edging out Panthers' Kelsey Daniel with 14.59m effort.

Simplex blew away the track in the Men`s 4X100 metres relay in a blistering time of (40.30), Cocnored had to settle for the silver medal in (41.41) and South City Rising Stars from Grenada grabbed the bronze medal in (42.03).
