One person has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in downtown Port of Spain yesterday, in which police came under fire from gunmen hidden in houses in East Port of Spain while helping the driver of a stalled car.

According to reports, at around 2.30 pm yesterday, officers of the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) were on patrol near Riverside Plaza when they spotted a car parked at the side of the street.

When the officers exited their vehicle to assist, they were shot at by gunmen armed with high-powered rifles from houses on Nelson Street.

No one was hurt and police believe the gunmen were firing at the occupants of the car and not at them.

However, up until late yesterday afternoon, the Port of Spain CID, and the IATF were continuing inquiries into the shooting.
