SPORT WILL be well represented at the St Augustine Girls’ High School/Hillview College Career Fair which kicks off virtually, on Saturday, from 9 am.

An experienced team of TT sporting professionals will converse with students of both institutions to raise awareness on the many career opportunities that stem from sport – both traditional and non-traditional.

Narada Wilson (sport executive/consultant), Dr Nadine Sammy (sport psychologist), Dr Brittany Mouttet (physiotherapist) and Tracey Pierre (sport nutritionist) will present to both alumni on varying facets of sport and the job opportunities that lie within.

Wilson has been a regular presenter at the career day and has also delivered similar presentations at multiple other secondary schools such as St Mary’s College, Trinity College and Bishop Anstey East.

This year, the Career Fair will be held online since last year’s version was postponed owing to the pandemic. For the 2021 edition, Wilson invited the experienced female trio to help students get a better idea of the many career avenues that surround sport.

Wilson said, “The idea I always had was instead of focusing on being just an athlete, which not everyone can do, I give them (students) several job options, within sport, to consider.”

Sammy is a sport psychologist at SporTT High Performance Unit. She will provide the students with the understanding of how psychology is a critical part of sport. Sammy will touch on the elements such as dealing with all the pressures of being a pro athlete and what he/she has to go through to keep performing at the best.

Mouttet, based in Barbados, played football and hockey at the secondary school level. She always wanted to study medicine but also had a great passion for sport. Luckily, she was able to merge the two.

Pierre has studied in the US and England and will deliver from the nutritional side of the game.

Wilson added, “For me, I am into sport/athlete support services. I’m just using three things outside of management that athletes need to perform on the field.

“They (students) need their head in the right place (psychology), their body in the right operational phase (nutritionist) and to keep their body performing at the highest level, they need the physiotherapy.”

He continued, “Because I’m into management, I show students how we could get into business in sport. In management, how I take care of the athlete, contracts, insuring they have the right deal, financial backing etc.

“Behind every athlete, there’s a group of people who are performing different tasks to show that they could perform at the best.”
