NATIONAL CYCLIST Teniel Campbell placed 47th in the women’s elite road race on day three of the 2020 Road World Championships in Imalo, Italy, on Saturday.
Among a field of 83 riders, Campbell completed the challenging 143-kilometre distance – five laps of a 28km circuit – in four hours, 24 minutes and 19 seconds.
Capturing the rainbow jersey was Dutch cyclist Anna van der Breggen, who completed the distance in four hours, nine minutes and 37 seconds. Holding on to runner-up spot was her compatriot Annemiek van Vleuten (4:10.17) while Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (4:10.18) copped bronze.
This was Campbell’s third stint at the Road World Championships, having recently made her competitive debut at the Giro Rosa in Italy two weeks ago. She continues to be TT’s lone female pro rider competing on the European circuit.
On Thursday, the 23 year-old took part in the individual time trial and placed 36th. The rising road cyclist completed the 31.7km distance in 45 minutes and 53 seconds against a total of 50 international road cyclists.
Saturday’s performance climaxed her ‘Road Worlds’ campaign as the meet concludes on Sunday with the men’s road race.
