No honour for Naipaul – ever
THE EDITOR: I read where Aiyegoro Ome is advocating a festival to honour Naipaul. I was hoping he meant any other but VS Naipaul.
As far as I am concerned, because VS Naipaul considered the country of his birth as "backward," among other things, and spoke of us in seriously unflattering and derogatory terms, he should never be forgiven and never honoured by us. Let Britain honour him.
We have many more deserving people right here who should be honoured. Slinger Francisco, the Mighty Sparrow, for one. He never once spoke of his adopted homeland the way Naipaul did.
I don’t know about anybody else but I will never ever forgive Naipaul.
