IN light of reports of suspicious people visiting the neighbourhoods of Couva North Gardens/Roystonia as field officers, Couva North MP Ramona Ramdial in a statement yesterday called for more police patrols in Central Trinidad.

She said, over the past year, mobile police patrols have decreased within her constituency leaving communities vulnerable for criminals to attack residents in their homes, commit theft and other criminal acts.

The MP lamented the termination of the Community Comfort Patrol scheme by National Security Minister Edmund Dillon, saying these patrols served to deter crime, especially home invasions which have now risen nationwide.

“Those with criminal intent would, at most times, go undercover as ‘field officers’ in disguise and ‘collect data’ but in actuality are scoping out families and properties to commit theft.”

She urged the Government and private sector to ensure any genuine field officers sent to collect data, possess proper identification with visible badges/attire identifying their organisation.

Ramdial commended the constituents of Couva North for raising the matter with the police and in the media.
