Digicel offers security for prison officers

Prison officers, much like those who serve within the protective services, face a certain number of threats made against them and their families by those whom they help put behind bars. To ensure the safety of its officers, the Prisons’ Officers Association (POA) approached Digicel to try and find a solution for securing their homes and their families.

David D’Oliveira, group chief executive officer, Caribbean and Central America, said the company was seeking to help 2,000 prison officers to benefit from this service.

Speaking at the official signing between Digicel and the POA yesterday at Digicel’s Hospitality Suite at the Queen’s Park Oval, D’Oliveira said Digicel would be providing surveillance solutions and management services.

“We subsidise the service and spread it out over a seven-year contract to make it more economical for them. The entire solution would be managed by Digicel, where we would maintain the infrastructure, and the POA would do the monitoring of the surveillance video footage.

We would be offering this service to other stakeholders in the protective services as well,” he said.

Officers will pay $1,225 per month for this service.

The Intelligent Security Systems (ISS) has been brought in to provide state-of-the-art technology, which will be managed centrally.

“Everything would be stored in our data centre.”
