Yvonne's red dress
Miss TT Universe Yvonne Clarke’s red dress has caused a stir on social media.
Clarke posted a series of pictures on her Facebook page between Monday and yesterday in three outfits. She posted eight photos of herself in two red dresses and a white pantsuit, as well as multiple pictures in the different outfits, either alone or with fellow contestants.
Clarke headed to Las Vegas last Saturday for the November 26 competition. One of Clarke’s dresses drew attention on Facebook – it was compared to a dress worn by late parang queen Daisy Voisin.
One Facebook user posted the picture with Clarke in a group with other contestants and said, “Lawd ham mussy!!! Who put Miss Trinidad and Tobago is [sic] Daisy Voisin ole parang dress??? Well yes! What kinda necromancy is this White Baby Jesus?”
The post drew 396 reactions, with some laughing at the comment, while others defended Clarke. One user told posters on the thread that she believed a similar dress was worn by Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam.
The user said, “To me it looks good n now is xmas time n to my memory stand to be corrected Wendy Fitzwilliams wore a dress similar.”
Another commentator compared Clarke’s dress to one worn by a female parang singer that appeared in Newsday’s features section yesterday.
Clarke’s post on Monday credited TT designer RG Fashion for the dress. The post drew 82 reactions with users encouraging her, one of them commenting, “Beauty in Perpetuity.”
