'Pres' Chaguanas one win away from SSCL crown

A VICTORY for Presentation College Chaguanas in round eight of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL), will see the defending champions lift the title and maintain their perfect record this season.

“Pres” have won seven games in as many matches and a win on March 6 over Vishnu Boys’ Hindu College will give the leaders an unassailable lead. A team can earn a maximum of 20 points for a victory.

Vishnu, led by captain Andrew Rambaran, are expected to provide a test for Presentation having won three straight matches.

Rambaran, who earned a TT Red Force senior call-up earlier this year, has been delivering with both bat and ball this campaign.

If Presentation come away with a win, second-placed St Mary’s College will have no chance of making up the difference.

Presentation and Vishnu will square off in Bamboo from 10 am.

St Mary’s will be favourites to pick up a win against a struggling St Benedict’s College outfit at the former’s school ground in St Clair. If St Mary’s earn a win and Presentation lose in round eight, it is possible that the “Saints” can win the crown in the last round when the schools meet. In the final round, St Mary’s will host Presentation.

At the other end of the table, sixth-placed Hillview College, seventh-placed ASJA Boys’ College San Fernando, eighth-placed Fatima College and ninth-placed St Benedict’s College will all be eager for victories to stay in the premiership division. Tenth-placed Toco Secondary have already been relegated.

The bottom four teams at the end of the season will be demoted to the championship division.
