Police seize guns, ammunition, drugs in Port of Spain, Southern, Western divisions
Police from the Port of Spain division seized a firearm and ammunition on Thursday during a crime-eradication exercise, while Western and Southern division officers held anti-crime exercises on Wednesday, resulting in three suspects being arrested.
A release on Thursday said Port of Spain officers from the Investigations Operational Unit carried out an exercise near George Street apartment buildings around 7.43 pm on August 1.
Police saw a group of men standing on the staircase. When they approached, the men ran off in different directions.
The officers searched the staircase and found an AR platform rifle fitted with a 5.56 AR magazine.
On July 31 officers from the Southern division seized ammunition and a quantity of marijuana.
Police said they went to "The Steps" on Lord Street, San Fernando, where they found 112 grammes of high-grade marijuana in three plastic bags.
They then went to George Street, La Romaine, near the home of a priority offender, where they seized 103 grammes of marijuana.
At Charles Street, La Romaine, in an abandoned building, police found a black plastic bag holding two electronic scales, ten rounds of .45 calibre ammunition and 15 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.
On July 31, officers from the Western Division Task Force, along with members of the K9 Unit, held an anti-crime exercise targeting priority offenders.
During a search of a forested area on Fuller Street, Patna Village, Diego Martin, they found 697 grammes of marijuana concealed under a pile of debris.
Additionally, officers stopped a vehicle along Cameron Road during exercises in the Petit Valley area. They searched it and found 550.6 grammes of marijuana in a black plastic bag.
The three occupants were arrested and taken to the West End police station.
Inquiries are continuing in all three divisions.
