Woman, 26, shot dead in Arima

FOR the third time in as many weeks, a murder has been recorded near Dump Road, Arima.

In the latest incident, Jamiela Cumberbatch, 26, was shot dead at her La Retreat Road home on July 28.

Police said around 11.50 pm, Cumberbatch and her boyfriend were at home when two gunmen approached and gunshots were heard.

Cumberbatch ran into her house, the suspects followed and more gunshots were heard. The suspects then ran off.

Cumberbatch's boyfriend found her lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds.

He called the police, who took Cumberbatch to the Arima Health Facility. She died around 2.45 am while being treated.

The crime scene officers recovered 18 9mm spent shells and one projectile.

Cumberbatch’s killing came five days after the bullet-riddled body of Eyon Murray was found along Dump Road on July 24 around 6 am, after residents reported hearing gunshots.

Anthony John's was the first murder in the Dump Road area in July. John was killed on July 15 after he arrived home.
