[UPDATED] Two killed, toddler injured in Tobago accident
TWO people were killed and a toddler injured in a car accident early on Sunday morning in Bacolet, Tobago.
Those killed have been identified as Tobago Regional Health Authority employee Sherma Thomas and Sunshine Snacks truck driver Kareem Thom.
Police said Thom was driving his Nissan Tiida with three occupants east along the Claude Noel Highway, near the Dwight Yorke Stadium, around 12.05am, when he lost control of the car, crashed into a railing and then slammed into a tree.
A video posted online showed people trying to help the victims in the rain, as an ambulance siren was heard in the distance.
Newsday understands that Thom and Thomas died at the scene.
The other occupants – a woman and a three-year-old – were taken to the Scarborough General Hospital.
The woman had a fractured forearm and fractured leg and the child has a hairline skull fracture. Both are said to be in stable condition.
Police are investigating.
