[UPDATED] Morvant gang war claims 3 family members in 6 months

A man was shot dead in broad daylight on the Eastern Main Road, Laventille yesterday.

Reports have identified him as Emmanuel Parks, aka Manuel, of Valley Road, Romain Lands, Morvant.

Parks was shot dead at around noon near the East Port of Spain Development Company and Simpsons Memorial Funeral Home.

People in the area reported hearing a barrage of gunshots.

Park’s body was then spotted lying in the road clad in a three-quarter jeans and a blue T-shirt.

His death is believed to be connected to an ongoing gang war, as this shooting comes just months after his stepfather, Akiel Rodriguez, aka Germs, was killed in a double murder in Morvant.

Rodriguez was shot dead in March as part of the war between Valley Road, Roman Lands, and Mon Repos Road. Rodriguez's younger brother, Atiba Rodriguez, and Jessie James, both of Romain Lands in Morvant, were shot and killed in February while liming on Ariapita Avenue.

The war is said to have claimed more than ten lives for the year thus far and has prompted police to instal a mobile police post at a community centre on Valley Road.
