Chaguanas man on kidnap, sex charges against Venezuelan girl
A 58-year-old man was granted $400,000 surety bail when he appeared before a Chaguanas magistrate on Monday charged with eight offences, including kidnapping, rape and other sexual offences against a Venezuelan minor.
The police charged Denniston Spence, of Chaguanas, with two counts of raping a teen, kidnapping, false imprisonment, indecent assault, malicious wounding, larceny, and having an offensive weapon.
The charges stemmed from the same alleged incident on August 5.
Spence appeared before the magistrate in the Second Court and was not called upon to plead to any except the larceny charge. He pleaded guilty to that charge.
The magistrate adjourned the case to September 11 and transferred it to the First Court.
As a bail condition, Spence has to report to the Marabella police station between 6 am and 6 pm twice weekly. He must not have any contact with the victim or her immediate family, whether in person, via social media or a third party.
A girl reported to police that on August 5, she was standing on Pancham Street, Felicity, where she hired a car to take her to Chaguanas.
On turning into Connector Road, Chaguanas, the driver drove into a side street.
It is alleged that he dragged her out of the car, removed her clothes, tied her hands and photographed her with her cellphone.
He allegedly had sex with her without her consent before stabbing her twice. He then drove off with her cellphone.
Central Division police investigated and later arrested Spence.
WPC Francis of the Chaguanas CID laid the charges.
