Destiny dreams of becoming doctor
DESTINY Loman is only five years old but already has big medical plans for her future.
When her mother Natasha Bode-Loman is sick, Destiny, after saying "Jesus help Mummy get better, amen,” pulls out her toy stethoscope and pretends to check her vitals.
At her pre-school graduation from Marlene's Kindergarten, Pinto Road, Arima earlier this month, Destiny was a shining star among her peers.
Her hard work and dedication at school paid off when she was presented with five major awards, other prizes and the title of Top All-Round Student for 2023.
For her, this is the beginning of an inspiring mark on her educational journey.
What sets her apart from her peers is her natural love for and knack for caring for others – a passion that fuels her dream of becoming a medical doctor when she grows up.
She told Newsday Kids, “I love to do work at school so I could be a doctor and help people.
“I’m excited to go to big school (primary school) so I can do more work. I got so many trophies in school because ah (sic) bright. I love taking care of my baby doll toy and eating chips."
Her parents told Newsday Kids she is very self motivated and enjoys learning. She can usually be found sitting quietly at home, learning to read and write or watching do-it-yourself project videos on YouTube, instead of cartoons.
Although she is shy, once she got settled during the interview, her giggles could be heard throughout the newsroom. She proudly spelt her colours – green, black, pink and red – and showed of her counting skills.
But even with this passion, she never forgets to make time to be a child.
When she is off duty from being a full-time pretend doctor, caring for her dolls and any family member who may be around, she is always ready to serve a hot cup of coffee from her pretend kitchen to visitors,
"My favourite thing to do is play with my kitchen set,” she said.
Aside from her medical career goal, Destiny hopes to be a ballerina.
Destiny said she also likes playing with her cuddly dog, building puzzles and taking trips to the mall with her brothers.
She also takes any opportunity to watch her favourite movie, The Little Mermaid, and she sings along to her favourite song. Under the Sea.
With one major milestone achieved, she is looking forward to beginning a new chapter of her life as a student of Arima Girls' Government when the new school year begins in September.
