In keeping with the Christmas spirit, President Christine Kangaloo hosted a children’s Christmas party at President’s House grounds on December 3.

Accompanied by her husband, Kangaloo officially opened the party at around 10.30 am, which delighted the hundreds of primary school students from across the country who took part in the many treats and activities, including a massive bouncy castle, go-kart, racing, face-painting and a photobooth, among others.

Newsday spoke to teachers from some of their schools.

Catisha Kerr-Taylor, an aide at the Parlatuvier Anglican Primary School in Tobago, said this was the first time the school had been invited.

“I think it’s a very great thing. Children love these kind of activities and the time out and this is a wonderful experience.

"The opportunity came and we are grateful and really happy to be part of it. All we come to do is just have fun, eat what they have for us to eat and have a good time.”

The principal of Excel Beetham Estate Government Primary School, Kenya Kiteme, was also pleased

“I’m very impressed. Everything is well organised and the children are having limitless fun. There's a steady supply of food, activities and most importantly, it’s safe.”

Shinier Hinkson-Lazarus, a form three teacher at the same school, said, “This was so refreshing and welcoming.

“After having a long term, for the kids in particular, they really needed this and I really appreciate how everything was set up where teachers would supervise but they (the organisers) also had their own supervision at every activity to maintain a bit of security.”

There was no shortage of security and military officers at the event helping and playing with the children. A medical team was also present in case of emergency.
