Bandit breaks into Egypt Village Primary School

A bandit broke into the Egypt Village Government Primary School in Point Fortin in the night on December 1 but left empty-handed.

In a Facebook post on December 2,  the school told the public the “devastating news” with a “heavy and broken heart.

“While we were pouring our hearts into planning the bazaar – a day meant to unite the people of Point Fortin, to bring families together and to create cherished memories for our students, someone else was making their own plans. Plans to rob us.”

The school said it was “hard to fathom” it had to announce this.

“Why would anyone choose to steal from a place dedicated to nurturing and uplifting children? Why take what is meant to create opportunities, joy, and a brighter future for our students?”

Sources close to the school told Newsday just after 11 pm on December 1, the security guard was inside the school and saw a hand trying to get into the principal’s office.

The officer then called her constable, who called the police, and the bandit fled, leaving behind a pair of white slippers.

They believe the bandit was at the school bazaar on Saturday, as he tried to steal a specific type of bag that had been used to collect money in.

But the source said, “But they picked up the wrong one, so when they realised that didn’t have money, they dropped it.”

Police are investigating.

The Facebook post also said, “To whoever did this, I ask you to reflect. What did you gain by taking from the hands of innocent children? Does it truly fill the void you were hoping to fill? It added, “We will rise above this. We always do. The question remains: where do we go from here?”
