Checkers celebrates diamond jubilee

Checkers Ladies’ Hockey Club celebration of its diamond jubilee at the Harvard Club, St James, was attended by past, present and longstanding members of the club.

Sandra Moore-Williams, one of Checkers' founding members. -

The club which was formed in 1964 had its roots in Bishop’s Anstey High School, Port of Spain, with founding members such as Esther Springer, Hebe Millette, Monica Sobers, Patricia Ellis and Rosemary Mathurin, among others.

A media release said these visionary women created a network of successful young women who transformed the landscape of hockey and professional opportunities for women in Trinidad and Tobago.

The release said the women continue to break the glass ceiling in many facets of life from academia, sport, corporate world to entrepreneurship.
