Parliament resumes on September 9

THE two Houses of Parliament will resume with sittings on September 9 after the recent break for the July/August vacations, according to the Parliament website as viewed on September 4.

The Senate sits at 10 am, while the House of Representatives meets at 1.30 pm.

In the Senate, some 33 papers/reports will be laid and four oral questions posed for answer. Debate is expected to resume on the Miscellaneous Provisions (Judicial and Legal Service) Bill, 2024. In the House, 68 papers/reports will be laid and four questions posed.

The House last sat on July 3, and the Senate on July 5.

The Senate questions relate to possible water damage in the new Ministry of Health headquarters, whether any Trinidad and Tobago entity has a memorandum of understanding with Jindal Steel and Power Ltd for the sale or lease of the former Petrotrin refinery, and the future of the Carlsen Field rice mill.

The House questions relate to Clico's sale to Parenco of its 56 per cent stake in Methanol Holdings (International) Ltd, the National Energy Corporation's activities in Guyana, the mistaken promotions to 29 police officers, and the expunging of the records of inmates for minor offences of cannabis possession.
