Brendan Boodoo puts Trinidad and Tobago on top against Barbados in Under-17 cricket
Leg spinner Brendan Boodoo took five wickets for 37 runs and put TT Under-17s in front against Barbados after day one of the West Indies Rising Stars Men’s Under-17 Two-Day Championship at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal.
Sent in to bat on August 17, TT struggled to create solid partnerships and were bundled out for 121 from 37 overs. Wicketkeeper Christian Lall top scored with 48 while opening batsman Joseph Mendoza’s 17 was second best.
Ripping through the TT batting order were Khomari Griffith (3/17), Damani Roach (3/30) and Jakeem Pollard (2/31).
In reply, despite having a better start than TT with the bat, powerful spells from Boodoo and Aaron Basant (3/24) quelled Barbados’ chase and they were removed for just 96 in 41 overs.
With a lead of 25 runs, TT returned to the middle and scored 13 without loss after eight overs, with Darrius Battoosingh (ten not out) and Mendoza (three not out) on strike. They closed the day leading by 38 runs with ten wickets in hand.
The second and final day of the round two tie bowls off on August 18.
In other matches, Windward Islands hold a strong 151-run lead against Jamaica at Gilbert Park in California.
Batting first, Windwards were 92 all out inside 32 overs with Edmund Morancie (26) and Cody Fontenelle (23 not out) top scoring, and Adrian Silvera (6/10) as Jamaica’s best bowler.
In reply, Jamaica were dismissed quickly for a paltry 48 from 20.4 overs. Their highest scorer was Vitel James (16) while Fontenelle (4/14), Morancie (3/6) and Joel Durand (2/12) did the damage with the ball for Windwards.
With a first innings lead of 44 runs, Windwards returned with the bat and closed day one on 107/6.
And at the National Cricket Centre in Couva, Guyana trail the Leewards’ 144 by 47 runs after finishing day one on 97/2, in reply.
Matches continue on August 18 from 10 am.
