WORLD Breastfeeding Week (WBW) will be celebrated across the world with the theme Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All.

Celebrated in over 170 countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, WBW will be commemorated from August 1 to 7 with celebrations continuing throughout August in Trinidad and Tobago.

This week is launched internationally by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action with the support of organisations concerned with the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding endorsed by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

On July 27, The Breastfeeding Association of TT (TBATT) launched World Breastfeeding Week 2024 locally with a annual walk around the Queen’s Park Savannah. Dr Gabriel Vivas Francesconi, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/WHO country representative for TT, participated in the walk and gave the feature address. Ministry of Health National Administrator Nursing Services Sherma Alexander-Campbell was present along with representatives from PAHO, regional health authorities, private health institutions along with breastfeeding counsellors and families.

TBATT has been recognising, highlighting and celebrating WBW in TT annually as part of their campaign to raise awareness and influence action on themes related to breastfeeding.

TBATT will also host the WBW Annual Walk in Scarborough, Tobago followed by breakfast at the Esplanade, on August 10.
