Southern Division police arrested two people and seized “items of interest” in a roadblock before dawn on August 2.

A police statement said officers stopped and searched a white Toyota Aqua, driven by a 27-year-old man from Upper Belle Street, Belmont, with a 24-year-old passenger from Mountain View Drive, Upper Santa Cruz.

They found two ski masks and a universal car starter.

Further checks showed the driver had never had a driver’s permit.

The suspects were taken to the Ste Madeleine police station in connection with reports of car theft.

The exercise took place between 1 am and 4 am and included officers from the Task Force and the Princes Town, Tableland and Ste Madeleine police stations.

Investigations are ongoing.

In an unrelated matter, on August 1, officers from the Princes Town municipal station arrested a 28-year-old man from Cemetery Street in Rio Claro for having a fake insurance certificate.

ASP Guzman co-ordinated the exercise, which acting Cpl Ali led.

WPC Glodon was expected to charge the suspect.
