Trinidad and Tobago trio cop gold at Pan Am Masters Athletics

ALL three of TT Association of Masters Athletics athletes struck gold at the 2024 Pan American Masters Track & Field Championship in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 14 and 15.

Natasha Kelshall-Pantin opened TT’s account on July 15 as she powered to victory in the women’s 400m dash 45-49 age group. She clocked one minute and 02.29 seconds (1.02.29).

Americans Aseel Aziz-Gomez (1.10.43) and Cindy Jacklin (1.12.41) rounded off the top three medallists respectively.

In the women’s 100m dash 55-59, TT’s Michelle Sturge topped the field in a speedy 13.67s. She swept her competition as Canadian Josee Falcon took silver in 15.26s while American April Svenstrup claimed bronze in 15.82s. Additionally, lone male representative Murrien Mitchell sprinted to victory in the 100m men’s 45-49 event in 11.98 seconds. He topped the international field ahead of Brazilians Jason Ferreira (12.15s) and Alexandre Gomes (12.37s), who bagged silver and bronze respectively.

The trio returns to the track on July 17 all in pursuit of 200m glory.

Kelshall-Pantin runs out of lane five against Indian Devarapalli Josnadevi and Americans Cassandra Harris, Laura Kline and Aziz-Gomez. Sturge goes for her second against five Americans, a Canadian and a Colombian while Mitchell face a field of four from USA, Canada and Brazil.
