Tobagonians take precautions, seek refuge in community centres

Approximately 80 people sought refuge at community centres even before Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Tobago on July 1.

”They did so pre-emptively to wait out the hurricane,” a TEMA official told Newsday at around 6 am.

The official said the agency received no reports of infrastructural damage or fallen electricity lines. She said most villages reported windy conditions and overcast skies but no persistent, heavy rainfall.

There were reports that two fishing boats overturned at the beach in Charlotteville owing to rough seas.
