FOLLOWING years of exciting matches at the Public Courts at the Nelson Mandela Park in St Clair, the Sagicor Junior Tennis tournament is moving to the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua for the first time this year.

Tennis Patrons Academy and Sagicor have come together once again as the hosts of the event, which will take place from July 6-11 from 9 am each day. Prospective competitors have until July 2 to register for the event which turns 23 years next month.

The competition will see boys and girls participating in singles and doubles games in the Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Under-18 and Under-21 categories. Additionally, contingents from Guyana and St Lucia are flying in to participate. The event also includes the Red Ball Under-10 tournament which provides beginners who are interested in tennis and intermediate players with the opportunity to hone their skills in the sport in a safe, competitive environment.

In a media release from Sagicor on Thursday, vice-president marketing and communications for Sagicor Life Inc Southern Caribbean Asha Nabbie, said, “We’re excited to be teaming up with partners Tennis Patrons Academy once more, this time in Tacarigua. And while we have had contingents from Barbados before, we’re delighted to have teams from St Lucia and Guyana, which speaks to the quality of the competition, confidence in how it is administered, but also to the longevity of the event. We’re proud to be associated with youth tennis for 23 years.”

Tournament director Neil Lingo said, “We are looking forward to another exciting year of competition in all of the categories, with many new faces joining our seasoned competitors.

The junior tennis circuit in TT is a busy one at this time of year, and the Sagicor Junior Tennis tournament is a staple on the calendar. The players look forward to the competition, especially as many of them are friends as well.”
