Police arrest six, seize three guns and drugs

SIX people were arrested and three firearms and a quantity of drugs were seized during anti-crime exercises on February 23.

According to a police release, during the execution of a search warrant at a home in Retrench Village, Golconda, officers of the Southern Division gang and intelligence unit found a Glock 19 pistol with one magazine and 15 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition along with a Smith and Wesson M&P pistol and one magazine.

A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with the find.

In the Northern Division, officers arrested a 21-year-old man during an exercise conducted in the Morvant, Barataria, and San Juan districts. After observing a group of people, including the man, gathered along Laventille Road, San Juan, officers searched everyone and found a gun while searching his bag. The man, who resides in the area, was arrested and taken to the San Juan Police Station.

During the exercise, officers also seized a quantity of marijuana while searching an abandoned vehicle along Maraj Street, San Juan.

Four people were arrested following exercises in the Penal and Santa Flora districts. Two labourers from Penal were arrested after police conducted surveillance at Sunrees Road Junction, Charlo Village, Penal. A 39-year-old man was arrested for trafficking in cocaine and possession of marijuana, while a 59-year-old man was arrested for possession of cocaine.

In Palo Seco, police witnessed a drug deal. One man escaped when he saw the police, while the 36-year-old suspect's home was searched and a quantity of marijuana, a small digital scale, and $1,400 were found. He was arrested for trafficking marijuana.

The execution of another search warrant at a home in Penal resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old man of Digity Trace. Police found a quantity of cocaine during their search.
