Trinidad and Tobago U-17s draw Jamaica in CWI tourney

The Trinidad and Tobago versus Jamaica match ended in a draw on Sunday, on day two in round two of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-17 two-day tournament, at PowerGen Ground, Penal.

A crucial ninth-wicket partnership between wicket-keeper batter Nial Maingot (25) and Alexander Chase (32) gave TT a slim first innings lead of 18 runs.

TT were in a spot of bother replying to Jamaica's 179, but were eventually bowled out for 197 after 84.4 overs.

Demarco Scott was the pick of the bowlers for the Jamaicans taking three wickets for 17 runs. He was assisted by Roshawn McKenzie and O'mari Wedderburn who captured two wickets apiece.

Jamaica batted a second time and were 11 without loss after four overs.

Barbados were the lone team to secure a victory in the second round with a six-wicket result over Leeward Islands at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal. Leewards followed up their dismal score of 88 on Saturday with 169 all out. T'Yanick Honore led the scoring for them with a brutal 61 runs inclusive of three boundaries and four maximums. Carlton Pluck made 36 and Xaveek Toppin added 28.

Jatario Prescod (3/25) and Xaundre Baptiste (3/67) were the main destroyers for Barbados.

Needing a modest 74 for victory after scoring 184 in their first innings, the Bajans got to 77 for the loss of four wickets. Jaden Webster top scored with a brisk 39 whilst opener Zion Brathwaithe added 21 runs.

The match between Windward Islands and Guyana also ended in a draw at the National Cricket Centre, Couva. In reply to Windwards first innings total of 177 all out, Guyana made 201 all out. Opener Romeo Deonarine top scored with a patient knock of 63 while Kevin Kisten and Rampersad Ramnauth added 29 runs apiece.

Windward Islands bowlers Kirt Murray and Jahson Vidal led the charge with the ball capturing three wickets each. At their second turn at the crease Windwards ended on 101/7.

The last round of matches begins on Wednesday.
