Man shot dead, 2 boys wounded in Golconda
A shooting in Golconda Village in San Fernando on Saturday night left a 50-year-old man dead and two boys, 15 and nine, wounded.
Dead is gardener Billy “Halfers” Williams of Church Street. He previously worked as a security guard.
The survivors have been identified as residents Israel Monroe, a form three student, and King Charles, a standard three student. Williams lived a stone’s throw from the homes of the two wounded boys.
Reports are at around 9 pm on Saturday, a gunman wearing a hoodie and dark clothing opened fire at the nearby home of the Charles family.
Williams was in the gallery while a group of children and other people were inside the house.
Williams was hit in the gallery and ran inside. The boys were playing video games, and the police believe stray bullets hit them.
Williams, the father of three and grandfather of two, collapsed and died in the living room.
The gunman is believed to have entered the yard via a gravel track leading to the M2 Ring Road.
Israel and King were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital. Israel was treated and discharged. On Sunday, he was seen wearing a cast and a sling on his right arm. Relatives asked for his photo not to be taken.
King’s brother, Odelle Charles, recalled Williams’ last words after being shot.
“He said, I pick up, boy.’ He couldn’t say anything else. I saw him take his last breath.
"Halfers was a hot mouth. He was well known, too,” Charles said.
“It had plenty of children inside playing PS5 games. Everybody is family here.
"King was shot in one of his legs. Other relatives are with him at the hospital.”
Ste Madeleine and Homicide Bureau of Investigations (Region III) police visited and gathered evidence.
Investigators found ten spent castings of 9mm ammunition.
Charles recalled that three months ago, in May, two gunmen shot at the same house one night.
No one was injured, and the police have not held anyone for the crime.
Investigations are ongoing.
