​Getaway car in businesswoman's murder had fake plates

The getaway wagon used by the gunmen who murdered a businesswoman in San Fernando on Saturday bore fake registration plates.

Up to Thursday, the killers remained at large.

Allison De Leon, 43, of De Leon Bananas Ltd, was ambushed and shot dead shortly after 6 am on Saturday as she left her home at Jinjul Street in Duncan Village. The mother of four lost her husband, the father of her children, to covid19 last year.

Police from the Southern Division and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (Region III) were tightlipped about the case, but confirmed the white wagon had false registration plates.

The police said they were pursuing all angles to arrest the killers and give the family closure.

They still do not have a motive for the murder.

An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.

The murder was captured on the family's security camera. Footage shows De Leon driving out of her driveway in her Range Rover and the wagon heading in the opposite direction blocking her path.

A gunman wearing dark clothing got out, and she reversed her SUV and stopped at the front of the house.

The assailants drove alongside her SUV and the gunman started shooting at it. She died in the driver's seat.

The gunman returned to the front passenger seat of the wagon, which drove off along Jinjul Drive.

Relatives and neighbours found De Leon's body and called the police.

Relatives have declined to speak with the media, saying they wanted privacy.
