PNM screens for Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation

OFFICIALS of the PNM screening committee, chaired by party leader Dr Rowley, were due to sit until very late on Sunday night to screen individuals wishing to become PNM candidates for the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation (TPRC) whenever the local government elections are called before August 18. Earlier, TPRC alderman Kwasi Robinson told Newsday that dozens people had formally indicated their interest to be screened and he expected a late sitting.

The activity took place from 3 pm at a community centre at Bally Street, Tacarigua.

Education officer Laurel Lezama told Newsday, "Over 40 persons were nominated by the various electoral districts and they have come with their supporters.

"The constituency executives for all of the constituencies situated within the TPRC are here, and form part of the official proceedings."

Lezama said the screening was "a thorough exercise" and all nominees were going through the process.

On Saturday, some 19 nominees were screened for the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation with the event lasting from 3-8 pm.

Newsday understands that on Monday at the Cascadia Hotel, St Ann's, the PNM will screen nominees for the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation (from 4 pm) and the Port of Spain City Corporation (starting 7 pm.) On Tuesday at the same venue, the PNM screens candidates for Diego Martin (from 4 pm.)

The following Monday, the party will screen at a venue for councils at San Fernando, Siparia and Point Fortin.

Next week Tuesday, at the same venue, the PNM screens nominees for Mayaro, Princes Town and Penal/Debe.

Next week Wednesday, the party goes to Chaguanas to screen for the councils at Chaguanas and Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo.
