Trinidad and Tobago’s Sham Mohammed is Beach Soccer Worldwide president
TRINIDAD and Tobago’s Sham Mohammed has been appointed the new president of Beach Soccer Worldwide for the Caribbean.
A statement issued by Miscellaneous Marketing, on Saturday said the position was announced by Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW) president Luis Felipe Tavares in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a week ago, following a meeting in the city with Mohammed.
Mohammed, CEO of Miscellaneous Marketing, also held the position of vice president of the BSWW Foundation for the past three years and will continue to hold that post.
“He has also been a supporter of TT beach soccer teams since 2013 and has promoted several beach soccer and soccer seven events in Florida and the Caribbean. Mohammed is also the club owner of local outfit Miscellaneous Laventille United,” the statement read.
Commenting on the appointment, Mohammed said, “I am indeed honoured to be appointed to the role of BSWW president of the Caribbean region.
“I am greatly looking forward to working with the staff, the wider football community and our various stakeholders moving forward, driving the development of beach soccer at every level within the region, overseeing the ongoing overall process and, of course, facing the challenges that will come our way.”
Tavares said Mohammed’s role and functions as president are to explore and manage all marketing possibilities to promote BSWW and all of the activities involving the production of events, seminars, television programmes and companies for the Caribbean territory.
Speaking further, Tavares welcomed Mohammed, saying, “We at BSWW are excited with the appointment of our long-time colleague Sham Mohammed and we are looking forward to him developing the sport of beach soccer in the region with immediate effect.”
BSWW is the entity behind the promotion and development of beach soccer across the globe, as recognised by FIFA.
They are responsible for the organisation of more than 300 top-class international events in 30+ countries involving up to 200 national teams and clubs, in both men’s and women’s categories.
Since being founded, BSWW has established a solid international calendar, with long-running competitions such as the Euro Beach Soccer League, the Mundialito, the Intercontinental Cup, the Euro Winners Cup, the World Cup Qualifiers and the Mundialito de Clubes, amongst others, as well as creating the World Championships in 1994, the seed of today’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup (created after the collaboration agreement between BSWW and FIFA signed in 2004).
