A Venezuelan man was murdered in Couva early Sunday morning.

Police said Steven Hernandez, 26, was stabbed to death at Salacca Drive, Roystonia, Couva, around 12.01 am.

Hernandez had recently moved to the area and was reported to have been living in TT for three years.

When Newsday went to Roystonia on Sunday, a man, who declined to give his name, said Hernandez lived in a wooden house close by. He pointed to a cluster of trees and bushes in the distance where he said Hernandez's body was found.

Police were at the house interviewing other Venezuelans who lived with Hernandez. One woman, who declined to give her name and spoke very little English, said she didn't know Hernandez.

"No familia (not family)."

The house in which Hernandez lived, shared the property with a larger concrete house which seemed to be occupied by locals and Venezuelans. None of the occupants of the concrete house wanted to speak about Hernandez or the incident.

Police at the scene also declined to comment.

Another resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Hernandez was one of several Venezuelans who lived in the area and they did not trouble anyone.

The resident claimed that on Saturday night Hernandez and some other Venezuelan men from the area were drinking and an argument broke out among them. The resident believes Hernandez was chased into the bushes where his body was later found.

Investigations are continuing.
