Patrice Roberts ends Utopia Weekend in style

Jazz, soca, reggae and afrobeats were just part of the package afforded to music lovers on the closing night of Utopia Weekend, at Buccoo Heritage Park, on Sunday.

After a pulsating first night at the Speyside Recreational Grounds on Saturday, hosted by Opulence Promotions, Sunday’s audience was more sedated but still thrived off the energetic performances.

With moko jumbies on show, the evening saw performances by Qua, Stephanie Joseph, Keda Tempro and Kersh Ramsey representing the Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra. The event was billed as a hybrid of music, art, food and fashion.

Freetown Collective, led by Muhammad Muwakil, had the audience feeling the love with their energy and soulfully-satisfying music. He took the show to the audience for a brief moment as he joined a few women dancing in the crowd.

Tobago-born singer Adana Roberts, wearing a yellow top and flowing skirt designed by Tobagonian Daniel Clarke, lifted the energy of the crowd with some of her hits including No Tomorrow and Changing. She was able to show her versatility as an artiste with her delivery, as the appreciative audience danced and sang along.

Headlining the event was soca star Patrice Roberts who built on the momentum already created. Dressed in a pink shimmery, long-sleeved blouse with a red shorts and pink boots – another Daniel Clarke design, the soca diva, backed by the A-team band gave fans a taste of almost everything.

She exploded on the stage with her latest hit, Drink water and mind your business, which has been receiving international acclaim. She also sang Toxic Love and some of her classics. Fans moved closer to the stage, cellphones in hand, to capture her performance. She also had the stage-side fans in euphoria as she joined them to continue her performance.

She brought the curtains down on the show which ended at 9.40pm.
