Repair work on Beetham sewer line to finish Dec 2

WORK on the concrete sewer pipeline on Main Street, Beetham Gardens, is expected to be completed by December 2, says the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
In a statement, it advised residents that work to replace the deteriorated segment of the 47-inch diameter concrete pipeline is ongoing.
“Work on the site, which began on October 15, entails re-routing of the collapsed pipeline via the installation of approximately 626 feet of 44-inch diameter Ductile Iron (DI) pipelines, at depths ranging from 19-26 feet.
“It also involves the installation of three manholes, two building connections, restoration and remedial works and decommissioning of the existing concrete sewer pipeline.”
The release said WASA will make every effort to minimise the disruption and impact caused by the work. “The authority apologises for the inconvenience and thanks residents for their patience and understanding.”
Beetham residents have been plagued with sewage issues for about three weeks after a ruptured sewer line on Main Street caused a sinkhole.
Residents have been complaining of the sewer water causing a stench and backing up onto their properties.
Two pumps were installed at the site of the sinkhole to remove the excess waste water in the pocket under the roadway so that WASA could begin repairs to the underground sewage main.
The damaged line has also inconvenienced residents as the main access road to the city was damaged and the foundations of the homes near the site were undermined by water.
