KISS Baking Co has recalled a batch of bread which may have been contaminated, but the company has ruled out social media reports that the contaminant was glass.

Social media was abuzz, with photos of the product allegedly being dumped, with commentary that the glass on a machine which makes the dough broke and splinters were mixed into the dough.

In a release on Sunday, Kiss’ general manager Rene De Gannes confirmed that on Saturday the company recalled several bread products which were produced on Friday last week.

De Gannes said this was because of the possibility that a piece of plastic may have contaminated a loaf of bread.

“It is highly unlikely that this occurred, but out of an abundance of caution we removed all bread that may have been affected by the piece of plastic from Trinidad.”

De Gannes said bread in Tobago was not affected.

The products recalled include all large sliced sandwich loaves, Kiss hot dog bread, coconut bun and Healthy Balance wholegrain buns.

De Gannes assured that its manufacturing process does not use any equipment containing glass.

“Kiss Baking Co Ltd wishes to assure all our customers that there is no possibility of glass being present in any of our products.

“Our customers can be confident that the bread available in the market and at present in their homes is perfectly safe. Nonetheless, should anyone feel any doubt or concern, we will refund the full value of the loaf or loaves via the retailer from which the product was purchased.”

Kiss thanked its customers for their understanding.

A customer representative at the JTA Supermarket, Carlton Centre said they did not receive any of the suspected batch that may have been contaminated.

She said the notice to recall went out before bread was sold to them. However, she said if customers are uncomfortable with purchases made the day before, once they present their bill, they will receive it on behalf of Kiss.
