Osmond Downer takes over as TT Football Referees Association boss
THE Trinidad and Tobago Football Referees Association (TTFRA) held its Annual General Meeting via Zoom where officials were elected, on Sunday.
According to a TTFRA media release, the meeting was a “marathon one” which lasted more than five hours.
Osmond Downer of the North Zone was elected as president unopposed, replacing Joseph Taylor. Lee Davis of the East Zone was re-elected as first vice-president unopposed.
Franklyn Phillip of the South Zone and Oswald Myers of the Central Zone were nominated for second vice-president with the latter being elected to the post. This post was previously occupied by the now-deceased Glorick Maynard of the East Zone.
Taylor of the North Zone was elected unopposed to this post of the third vice-president.
Boni Bishop (general secretary), Eustace Benjamin (assistant secretary, administration), Ronald Geoffrey (assistant secretary, finance), Marcia Williams (assistant secretary, operations) and Danielle Williams (public relations officer) were also elected. The officials will serve from 2021 to 2023.
The release said, “All the elected officers, in their acceptance remarks, pledged to live up to the expectations of the members of the association in helping to promote the cause of football in general and of refereeing in particular.
“The newly-elected president Downer, envisaged difficult times ahead for the game in the country, and pledged that the association’s representatives will continue to make valuable contributions. Not only on the field of play, but in the meeting rooms of the TTFA.”
The elected officers, together with four representatives from each zone of the association will now make up the general council of the association, the main decision-making body of the association between general meetings.
