A police exercise on Wednesday night led to the arrest of eight people, including five gang members in Maloney.

Police said between 7 pm and 11 pm, members of the Northern Division Area Central Task Force and the Maloney CID went to several areas identified as "hotspots," where they arrested the men.

Investigators said two members of the Rasta City gang, 21 and 28, were arrested for shootings in the area, and three members of the ABG (Anybody Gets It) gang, 18, 22 and 23, were arrested for shootings and housebreakings.

Three other men, 22, 28 and 40, not identified as members of either gang, were also arrested for breaking and entering and theft.

Police also searched a number of buildings in Maloney.

The exercise was co-ordinated by Snr Supt Ramkhelawan and Supt Williams, with field operations by Insp Highly and Sgt Guelmo.

Police said last week that members of the two gangs were fighting for turf in parts of Maloney and Bon Air Gardens, and suspect the murder of 15-year-old Akid Duke may have been a result of ongoing tension between them when he was mistaken for a member of the Rasta City gang.
