Perfect start for Campbell-Smith at Lease tennis

Boys under-12 singles third seed Yeshowah Campbell-Smith had a perfect start to his 2020 Lease Operators Ltd Junior Tennis Tournament campaign on Friday. Campbell-Smith was a flawless 4-0, 4-0 against Ivan Murray-Ramcharan when action served off in the round robin phase at the Trinidad Country Club courts in Maraval.

Sixth seed Rizwaan Mohammed also put on a commanding performance as he eased past Daniel Dumas 4-0, 4-2.

Unseeded players Adam Wyatt, Lucas Small and Aaron Subero also recorded opening day victories. Wyatt trumped Justin Horsford 4-1, 4-0; Small beat Jose Ara Gonzalez 4-0, 4-1; Subero bettered Omar Thomas 4-1, 4-1.

In the boys under-10 singles, second ranked Scott Abraham also got off to a fine start as he conquered Darius Rahaman 6-2. Fourth-ranked player Nicholas Abraham had to dig deep but managed to also secure an opening 6-5(5) victory over Zelig Williams.

Ryan Steuart won 6-1 over Giovanni Boxill. Alos, Alex Sharma overcame Zachary Boissiere 6-0.

Play served off at 3pm in both the under-10 and under-12 boys and girls divisions. Prior to the start of play, one minute of silence was observed for former Tennis Association of TT (TennisTT) administrators and players Dave Patrick, Colleen De Gannes and Hayden Salim who all passed away in 2020.

Rains also delayed the opening matches and up to press time, matches were still on court. Action continues on Saturday.
