Arts-In-Action launches cyber-theatre programme with Finding Romeo
THE applied creative arts programme Arts-In-Action (AiA) is launching its youth cyber-theatre programme with the play Finding Romeo. The production premieres October 30 and run for two weekends until November 8.
In a release, AiA said Finding Romeo details the story of a young man, Romeo Warner, who lands in police custody after an altercation with his girlfriend. The production aims to address the issues of gender-based violence (GBV) and intimate partner violence (IPV) in Caribbean society from the male perspective.
“The production is geared toward engaging the general community, our youth, associations and other governmental and non-governmental bodies that are committed to the movement towards the eradication of gender-based violence in TT. This year we have observed the gruesome killings of 45 women in TT as a result of domestic violence," AiA said in the release.
"The story aims to address the issue of gender-based violence using the male perspective as a lens through which the audience examines the issue. It also seeks to approach the issues of toxic masculinity and male empowerment while contributing to the eradication of GBV and violence against women and girls (VAWG). The play aims to encourage discussion, examination and action on GBV and the concepts of masculinity that encourage perpetrators to commit the acts of violence,” the release said.
The production will take place on Zoom. To view the production, from October 30-November 2, and November 6-8, visit Arts-In-Action’s Facebook and Instagram pages and its LinkedIn page at Caribbean Arts-in-Action to register.
