TT Automobile Assn donates 500 masks to PoS Corporation
THE TT Automobile Association (TTAA) has donated 500 face masks to the Port of Spain City Corporation. The handover took place on Wednesday, when TTAA president Selwyn Bunny Persad and vice president Gerald Mendes presented the masks to mayor Joel Martinez.
Also on hand to receive the donation were councillor Dennis Bristol for the district of Southern Port of Spain and councillor Malouia Bourne for Belmont North and West.
In his acceptance speech, a TTAA release said, Martinez said, “It’s our families, it’s our people, it’s our nation, it’s our world. It’s not just our government to look after us, it’s the responsibility of every individual on Earth to take care of each other. That includes government, corporate and individual responsibility.
"I believe that (the corporate sector) has a major role to play and sometimes they take the initiative and governments follow. In other instances it’s the other way around.
"I think we have managed the pandemic very well. It’s unfortunate that it has gotten to the stage that it has, but we are still in a much better position in relation to other countries who have been struggling to manage the virus."
The mayor thanked the TTAA "for really coming on board and taking their civil responsibility seriously," in offering the 500 masks to the city.
"I know that you will make the rounds to the other municipal corporations, and I admire the idea behind it. There are never enough masks, it’s something we are constantly using. We look forward to future collaboration between the TTAA and the city corporation”
Persad responded, "On behalf of the TTAA, we want to thank the corporation for accepting our donation and we wish to thank you for the good work you and your staff have been doing during the pandemic.”
The TTAA is based at Francis Road in Maraval.
