Activists raising money to free 'Ganja Queen'
WITH the slogan "Free Nazma,” scores of marijuana activists have come together to raise $40,000 to put towards the bail of Nazma Muller who is in the women’s remand prison at Golden Grove.
Muller, a marijuana activist who is also known as 'the Ganja Queen,' was charged with possession of over 400 grammes of marijuana last Wednesday.
She was granted $300,000 bail or a cash alternative of $35,000, but her family has been unable to raise the money.
Muller was arrested at her Second Street East, Trincity home and the drugs were allegedly found in her possession.
In a Facebook post, activist and environmentalist Dr Wayne Kublalsingh said if they do not succeed in bailing Muller out of jail she would be in prison for 28 days.
He said they are trying to raise $35,000 for the court, which is refundable after the matter is finished, and a further 5,000 as a down payment for her attorney.
“If we choose the option of bail by deed value, then a valuation has to be done on the property and all taxes and rates paid up. I suggest we choose to raise $35,000 cash bail.
"So, I am asking supporters to assist with raising $40,000 for the release of Miss Muller or, we may be lucky to find someone with a property with a recent valuation who is willing to post bail.”
Her son Elija Mead, in a post on his mother’s Facebook page, thanked everyone for their support.
“We can release my mother, AKA Ganja Queen, and all we need is teamwork. So what you all say, we can make this happen.”
In December last year, amendments to the Dangerous Drugs Act made allowed people to have in their possession up to 30 grammes of marijuana for personal use.
