Jewan Ethan Ramkissoon, the man charged with the double homicide of an ex-policeman and his wife, faced a Chaguanas magistrate on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old accused, who lives at Mt Pleasant Road in Claxton Bay, was unrepresented by an attorney when he faced magistrate Nikolas Ali during the virtual hearing.
Murders are indictable offences, so Ramkissoon was not called upon to plead. The magistrate denied bail and remanded Ramkissoon into custody. He adjourned the case to June 24.
Police are contending that on unknown dates between May 12 and 19, Ramkissoon murdered Kenneth Mackhan, 62, and his 65-year-old wife Lillawati.
Police found their bodies at their home at Upper Welcome Road in Cunupia last week Monday. The body of the retired police corporal had been stuffed in a barrel and his wife’s into a suitcase.
Later the same day, police arrested the accused. Cpl Smith of the Homicide Bureau Region III laid the charge and Sgt Alicia Sooden prosecuted. Insp Figaro of the Homicide Bureau Region III supervised the investigations and legal officer PC Kyrn Lewis submitted a file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for instructions.
On Tuesday, deputy DPP Joan Honore-Paul gave police the all-clear to charge Ramkissoon.
