Kamla threatens PM with $2m law suit over 'traitor' statement
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is threatening to sue the Prime Minister for $2 million for defamation of character.
She was speaking during a virtual public meeting on Thursday night which was attended by over 1,400 viewers.
She said her lawyers already delivered a pre-action protocol letter to Dr Rowley.
"A few weeks ago I came and did a press conference and I was branded traitor by the prime minister. I am not a traitor I brought the information for the knowledge of the public. I caused my lawyer to deliver a letter to you, yes I'm going to sue you and lawyers are claiming $2 million for defamation of my character."
Last Friday, Rowley called the opposing leader a "traitor" and accused her of trying to provoke US sanctions against TT for his having met a group of officials led by Venezuela vice president Delcy Rodriguez.
